Unbrecciated
Basalt, Achondrite - Eucrite
Shock
Grade: Low
Weathering
Grade: Low
(TKW)
254g.
Description: The meteorite is an unbrecciated basalt consisting
dominantly of
coarse-grained blocky pyroxene, plagioclase, and silica. Pyroxene is
augite
with Ca-poor exsolution lamella or vice versa. Plagioclase often
contains
pyroxene inclusions. Minor phases include ilmenite and Al-Ti-rich
chromite. Few
regions appear more fine-grained and plagioclase poor than the major
part of
the meteorite.
Geochemistry: Mineral composition as determined by EMP: plagioclase,
An78.5-91.1; pyroxene, Fs27-64.1Wo1.2-44.5.
Classification: Achondrite (eucrite);
low degree of
shock, low degree of weathering.
